I wanted to write up a simple guide to posting on twitter. Let me start of with some steps if you are new to Twitter. If your part of the Twitter main stream, skip down to the Tips part below where I talk about generating clicks from you Twitter account.

Here are 140 char long summary’s to help you to know Twitter. This is like the elevator pitch, twitter style

1. Don’t drive twitter naked, this is the first step to making twitter yours Click Settings and start filling up your profile. Be yourself

2. Join the twitter conversations Read up on what the people your following are up to and reply if it interests you with ideas

3. Twitter is a living conversation you can talk at someone. When someone asks a question, don’t hesitate to answer if you know it ‘interact’

4. Follow people with similar interests look for people and read their descriptions Twitter is a family and this time you choose your members

5. Alright so you’re blending in the community. Now update daily if possible. No one likes to come to a wall where no one is posting

6. Do unto others what you want others to do unto you sticks here. Before you can receive retweets, you must help others first by retweeting

7. Remember relationships on twitter. Create constant connections; you might get to talk with a group of people at the same time every night

8. Have a lot of friends on Twitter? Then take it to another level. Direct message them skype them spend some IRL time outside the community

Part Two (Be a Twitter Hero)

…Want to generate more clicks from your tweets, here are some important points to hit.

write persuasive tweets

Tweets are just like headlines. They need to attract attention and get the reader to read to click. Your tweet needs to convince the reader that it’s worth their time to click on the link and read the content it leads to. Twitter people are smart, and can spot a lower quality link from a mile away. Time is also very valuable to folks on twitter and they choose what to read based on good headlines.

Choose the right keywords

People are always looking for quality content on twitter. They normally look for them in their own twitter feed. Now if they don’t find what they are looking for, they will type words in the Twitter search box and look for the latest tweets on that topic.

Plan on using hashtags

Always make sure you use a hashtag along with your tweet. People might search for hashtags instead of words in the search bar. Users know hashtags can lead to relevant tweets they are looking for, so use relevant hashtags in your post

Choosing when to post is important

You are going to have a larger reach when more of your followers are online. The trick is to figure out when this time is. Tweriod has a great service that allows you to find out when more of your followers are online. They only give you one free report, the rest you have to pay forwww.tweriod.com

Space your Tweets out.

Nobody likes spam and no one wants their twitter wall displaying a waterfall of just your tweets. A really good way to time your tweets and to make them automatic is to use a service like Bufferapp.com

I hope this post was helpful to anyone who discovered it. I’m mixing in with other Social Media guides from around the web.

September 23, 2011 for a special online conference like no other. You’ll learn from 17 of the world’s most respected professionals and thought leaders in the areas of freelancing, marketing, social media and personal development. They’ll reveal proven and actionable business-building ideas, insights, tactics and strategies that will help take your “business of one” to the next level.

Let me sum up some of the highlights for you, this will be 4 plus hours of video for Freelancers. If you are a working freelancer or plan to start doing freelance, this is the event for you! These videos are worth their weight in gold. Some of the stuff is about being more productive blah blah blah. The better videos will be the ones like the Dirty little secrets of freelancing. Conrad will probably talk about how you are always working or always in work mode. People always see the money of freelance, but never see the hours it takes to be a freelancer. Can’t wait for this session.

Session #6 will cover money and money management for freelancers. This should be great especially if you are more the creative person and now you are the accountant. Session 7 will be a nice followup it looks like they will have a video on how to price when you freelance. This is something that goes all across the board. Every freelancer I have met has their own pricing structure.

Oh and session #8 should have something on utilizing facebook. This should have something worthwhile. It’s always good to see how others are using Facebook when promoting.

For years web designers have gotten the short end of the stick, they are the hair dressers of the computer age. Your website and your web designer should be one of the most important parts to your company today. Facebook, Twitter, Google. Is your company there? Can you be found on Google? Did you have a designer make your facebook fan page, or did your niece make it? Do you have a web designer running marketing promo’s in twitter, or are you talking about what restaurant you ate at last night? Not only does a web designer have to know social media, but they have to know SEO, Email servers, Animations and Graphics. A web designer has to be versatile and ready to cut hair to any style the next client that walks through the door asks for. This week does your company have a mullet and maybe next week you want a mohawk?

Now do you have a family friend make you a company website, or do you realize its time to pay for a real website? Well let me see if I can show you the real worth of your web designer…

With the ready accessibility of internet, websites are the leading method of getting information about products and services. That’s why it has become vital for businesses to have an online presence. People don’t go through the yellow pages anymore or look through ads; they Google. Everyone Needs a Good Web Designer to implement an online strategy for their website. I once herd someone say, “If you can’t be found on Google do you really exist”? That’s why having an experienced web designer is so important; web design is no longer just about creating a website, it’s about helping people find you online. With the rising availability of internet access, more and more companies are relying on websites for their marketing. That’s because websites have become the top method of finding information on products and services before actually buying them.

Most people don’t go through the phone book or through TV ads anymore; they go to a search engine and they look for what they need. And 9 out of 10 people go for the first one that appears on the search engine list. Because of this, it has become crucial for most businesses to have a website that will show up in the results, making the demand for an experienced web designer’s rise once again. Companies are now realizing these key players are an important part to any business. The internet has become a part of everyday life for many of us. It would be difficult to find a person that doesn’t have access to the internet in one way or another. It is quickly transforming how we run our lives and it is also changing how consumers find products and services. When most people are in need of products and services, the first step is usually to look up likely companies and businesses online. And most people often go for whatever’s first on the search engine list. That’s why it has become so important for businesses to have websites and for them to rank high in search engine results which makes having an experienced web designer much more important.

A good web designer would know how to design a website to make it easier for search engines to find it. Also, it’s not just about search engine optimization; there’s also the content such as the graphics design, written content and videos. A business needs the website to portray just the right image that would appeal to its demographic. It also needs the website to be able to deliver important information almost immediately and to encourage the visitor to take the next step, like buying the product or paying the business a visit.

As a business, you’ll need a web designer that knows all about optimizing a website for search engines to make it easier for search engines to find. Other than search engine optimization, there’s also the content to consider; whether its graphics, videos or articles, content is king in web design. Company’s are always focused on branding trying to create just the right kind of image for its potential customers and a website should be able to capture that image. A web designer should also be able to make the important information catch the visitor’s attention and encourage them to take action, like buy the product or sign up for a newsletter. An experienced and skilled web designer would not only be able to create a functional and catchy website for your company, they should also be able to make the website easier to find for search engines. More than internet marketing strategies and methods, they should also have a firm grasp of the importance of content like the graphics, videos and articles.

By creating an online presence for your business, you’re reaching out to hundreds if not thousands of people in your area that use the internet. And an experienced website designer will know how to capitalize on that to make your website a powerful marketing tool. That’s why a web designer is responsible for more than just the actual website construction; conceptualization and knowledge on effective online marketing methods should be part of the job. By having an online presence, a business can reach out to potential customers that fit a specific demographic so that it can get the right kind of attention. Not only that, but a professional website designer will know how to design a website so that it can capitalize on a business’s strengths and become a powerful marketing tool. That’s why a web designer’s job extends beyond just web development; conceptualization and design play large parts in creating an effective business website. A good website designer will know how to focus a website to appeal to a certain niche, making the website a powerful online marketing tool.

Since there are multiple factors effecting each and every website, finding just the right kind of web designer can be a little tricky. But how do we find a good and reliable web designer that’s just right for the job? The first thing that you should look at is their portfolio. Check out the previous companies that have worked with the website designer that you are considering and see how their websites are doing. Also check out the services that the web designer is offering. Does it stop at graphic design and web development or does it extend beyond search engine optimization and internet marketing?

But finding an experienced and reliable web designer can be tricky, simply because the online community is filled with people who call themselves web designers. The first thing that you need to keep an eye out for are the ones who only have 2 to 3 websites on their portfolio. They just don’t have the experience of long term projects or even website up keep. Your site could require something that the sites in their portfolio don’t have. This means they will “bubble gum” something together for you. Basically they are under a time limit it finish your website in a timely manor. This means they don’t have time to test out various methods to do something new. You will get the first piece of chewing gum code that stays in place.

A designer with enough websites under their belt will have run into many of these coding hurdles before and will have their own supply of working scripts that have been tested. They will just cut and paste this working code into the project and move on. Most web designers will have folders on their computer stuffed with spare scripts and working frames where they can pull from to create reliable custom scripts for each website. Look for a web designer that has a vast portfolio, and visit the sites they have done. Click on different links and see how the pages function. Every web designer will have a different look and feel to the way a website functions.

If you’ve narrowed your list, try contacting the web designer you have in mind and set up a meeting. It’s highly likely that a skilled web designer will know more about what your business will need in entering the online community, so if he comes up with some interesting ideas then he might just fit the bill. If you already have a few web designers that you’re considering, try setting up a meeting and ask them what they can do for your business. If they have a few interesting ideas and if they can give you an actual strategy and a set of goals, then you’re on the right track. If it feels like you are having to come up with all the ideas, this is not the web designer for you. A good web designer 90% of us, will be brain storming while we are talking to you. The ideas should be flying out and it should feel like the designer is on your same wave length.

Yes most of us are aware by now that Google has been using a new algorithm. If your site’s SEO was done properly, then you shouldn’t have noticed a shift in your page rank. Most people should notice that their rank has gotten better. Over the years Google’s algorithm has changed, but it always seems to have the same focus. Getting the websites with the right content on their first page. They have done a good job explaining how to structure your sites metadata. Don’t agree with me, just signup for Google Webmaster and you will see the amount of information they put out there without revealing too much that would give another search engine insight into their code.

So far I have still been able to get clients websites on the first page of Google. If anything I have noticed a boost in my clients rankings. Here is the latest formula Google is supposed to be going by.

(Kw Usage Score * 0.3) + (Domain * 0.25) + (PR Score * 0.25) + (Inbound Link Score * 0.25) + (User Data * 0.1) + (Content Quality Score * 0.1) + (Manual Boosts) – (Automated & Manual Penalties)

My assumption is that inbound links went down a bit in terms of relevance. This keeps those sites that have used link farms from taking up all the prime spots on page 1.

Everything else is just straight forward SEO. pick a useful domain name, fill out all the meta tags properly so Google knows what your sites about. And like they have always said, Content is king. Write some good unique content that focuses on your websites main area of expertise.

If your pulling your hair out over this, because your site lost ranking chances are there is more SEO that needs to be done on your website. Look there before you try to blame some Algorithum

Ok, so you made the upgrade to WordPress 3.0. Now your website is Stuck in Maintenance Mode. I’m not going to talk about the whole update process. If you have made it to this point, you know how to update and you just want that maintenance hold page gone.

There is a “.maintenance” file in the root folder of your wordpress site. You can go through your webhosting control panel, and hopefully the view will let you see hidden files. The other way to get to this file is through FTP. Most FTP clients will let you enable hidden files. By default this is off, so you won’t see a .maintenance file when you first look. Find the view from the file menu, and choose show hidden files. The FTP clients that are pretty good about this are Transmit, Cyberduck, and WinSCP. I bet SmartFTP has a simple way to enable it as well.

Just delete that .maintenance and your front page should re-appear. If the update failed, you will have to run the updater again. Sometimes turning off your plugins will help. You may even find a php error that tells you one plugin isn’t working. Thats the next thing to dig into.

There is a website out there that is a one stop shop for css web design. CSSpost.com list CSS websites that have been submitted by designers. They showcase some of the best websites utilizing CSS design. This site is a great way to show off your web design work. Submit a website for free to be reviewed. If selected it will show up on their site gallery. Now that’s a way to get some notoriety with your web design.

Some of the things I noticed is that you can showcase branding, colorful, dark, flash and other sub design categories. Because really Dark needs to have its own category right. I was glad to see it separated from colorful and it was nice to see a unique category just for flash. They even have a showcase just for landing pages. Landing page design right now is big. Most clients I deal with now want some sort of squeeze page, or a landing page for their products. This site has a category for you to showcase that.

It’s free to signup, and free to submit your designs. This would be a great resource for design students as well. Get your work out there early and be found. Just think about it, the better designs that are up there the better chance designers will notice your work. It is nice to get a link back to your site as well. This will help those people who need some more SEO.

Visit CSSpost.com, browse through some of the designs. Maybe see a design you really like and give some web designer some long overdue street “cred”. Submit your own CSS designs up their and help your own street “cred”. Otherwise visit this site and get inspired. There are some really top notch designs up there for people to see. This site showcases some of the best of the best.

By Jason Bacot

If you want lots of views on your page, you will need to make sure that it gets a lot of hits. If you want your page to experience a lot of web traffic, then you need to make sure that it is something people really want to see. The design of your website is essential to having it be something that sees a heavy
traffic flow.

If you want readers to trust you, to keep coming back to you, and to share you with others, you need to have a layout and design that they can readily appreciate and feel secure with. Even if your content is great, no one is going to read it unless your layout is stellar. If it is outdated or if it is loud with
neon colors and a lot of flash devices, people will leave immediately and you will lose a lot of viewers.

Create web pages that are visually pleasing and also focused. A page that is crazed with so many links and concepts and ideas and pictures will really turn off viewers and make them seek elsewhere for their information. You have keywords that are guiding readers through the pages, so make sure that you devote just a page for each keyword, keeping the content and design focused. Furthermore, keep the design relevant to the content.

If your business is professional and your ideas serious, or if you have something that you want to express in a serious way, then don’t use loud, jarring colors to get your point across. Instead, use colors that are suggestive of your professionalism and choose pictures and images that match, as well. Tacky flashing images and big, curly fonts will only make people think that you lack professionalism and that will be bad news for your website.

It really needs to be very reflective of what you are trying to get across. Feel free to use images that are relevant and give them captions that are placed in organized locations. And above all, be consistent! Be consistent with your font choice, with the colors you use, with the image size and width. You want the website to have a clean, professional feel, instead of one that is chaotic and somewhat unorganized.

The design is very important, because if a person chooses your website from a link or if they found it based on a keyword search, if the design is not good, no one will want to stay on your website for very long. In fact, they will be so turned off by the poor design, that they will not read anything you have written nor visit any of your links, because the entire thing will seem so unprofessional and unreliable. Even if you had great things to offer and say, sadly no one will ever know unless your design is good.

You can improve your business and increase the amount of visitors if you keep your website design professional and nice.
