Getting a new Windows Computer 32 bit or 64 bit

buy_64bit_computerWhen it comes time for you to get a new computer, think twice about the choice between 32 bit and 64 bit machines.  If your not going to buy a Mac, then atleast let me tell you a little more about a 64 bit OS.  Over the years I have both Mac and PC and currently I am rotating from one to the other daily.  My current job has a Mac for me, and recently I went to a PC for my home computer.  First of all no one should preach to you which computer is better.  You should definitely take the time to go play on some in store models. For what I have seen, both OS’s have there issues.

Now if your going for a PC now is the time to spring for a 64 bit operating system.  Most the newer computers you purchase will be 64 bit now.  Especially if any of them are over 4 gigs or ram.   All 32 and 64 bit means is one processor can handle more information.  The 64 bit OS will handle higher amounts of RAM the the 32 bit one.

For the very light computer users,( the ones who only use email and surf the web)  Just buy a 32 bit computer with about 2 gigs of ram.  They will start going down in price these days.  Thats good news for you.  Now for the power users, (the ones who are running 3 different applications at once and streaming music videos) this is where you want to find the benefits of a 64 bit OS.

Most the newer computers out there that run over 4 gigs of ram will be 64 bit computers.  You will notice a major performance boost.  I made the commitment and bought a computer with 8 gigs of ram and now I’m never looking back.  Just the fact that the computer can handle more ram is a major benefit.

The only down side is that some applications out there only run on 32 bit computers.  This was worse about a year ago, but anymore engineers are getting up to speed.  64 bit computers are really where the future of the PC is going to be.  Most of the time a 32 bit application will just install and work.  The best part is when you find that an application has a 64 bit version that can make use of all your ram and processor power.  Its like a juiced up Blueray player in terms of computer software.
